Project Details
Waterproofing remediation to external planter boxes and replacement of a leaking bedroom window at a residential property in Burleigh, QLD, to address water ingress into internal bedroom areas.
| Project Size: | 1 planter box, 1 bedroom window |
Project overview
Persistent water ingress into the bedroom areas of a residential property in Burleigh was traced to failed waterproofing membranes within the external planter boxes on the side bedroom wall, as well as a leaking window. The deteriorated waterproofing system and rusted metal wall capping had allowed moisture to penetrate the internal areas, requiring full remediation of the planter box and rectification of the affected window opening.
CRS was engaged to carry out a complete waterproofing repair programme to the planter box, including the supply and installation of new Ardex waterproofing membranes, drainage cell, geo-tech fabric, and new Colorbond wall capping, along with the removal and replacement of the leaking bedroom window and internal make-good works.
Project scope
Section 1: Waterproofing of Planter Box
Existing soil inside the planter box was removed and stored. The existing rusted metal wall capping was removed and disposed of. Existing waterproofing membrane was ground off and the planter box wall and base were washed down. Minor preparation works were carried out to the planter wall and base to allow for the new waterproofing system.
Waterproofing membranes were supplied and applied to the internal face of the wall and base of the planter box using the following system:
- Primer: 2 coats of Ardex WPM300
- Primary Membrane: Ardex WPM157
A waterproofing membrane was also supplied and applied into the cavity to the underside of the flashing and lapped down onto the planter box membrane. A drainage cell and geo-tech fabric cloth were supplied and installed to the planter base to allow for adequate drainage.

New Colorbond wall capping was supplied and installed. External wall paint was applied to match the existing external wall colour. The existing window opening to the external face was re-caulked. The leaking bedroom window was removed and replaced. Internal make-good works including patching and painting were carried out to the affected bedroom area upon completion.
