Project Details
Major concrete spalling remediation to a structural beam above garage doors at a residential strata complex in Ballina, NSW.
| Project Size: | 200m2 |
| Project Duration: | 4 Weeks |
Project overview
Constant water ingress into the main concrete beam above the garage doors had caused the steel reinforcement to rust, leading to significant concrete spalling. Chunks of concrete were actively falling from the beam, posing a serious safety risk to residents and vehicles below.
CRS was engaged to carry out structural concrete repairs across the affected beam, completing approximately 500 litres of repair work and installing 10 sacrificial anodes to protect the reinforcement from future corrosion.
Project scope
To gain access to the beam, existing render was removed and garage doors were taken out. CRS then carried out full concrete spalling repairs including the installation of anodes to arrest ongoing corrosion of the steel reinforcement.
The repair program included both formwork and poured repairs using Sika 436 flowable repair mortar, as well as hand pack repairs using Sika 412, ensuring a thorough and durable reinstatement of the structural beam.
